The
grind is one of the most controllable steps a person at
home has in brewing coffee. The right grind can produce
a brew that will dazzle your taste buds and be aromatically
explosive; an incorrect grind might leave you unimpressed.
Adjusting the grind changes the number of fine particles
that interact with water during brewing, which in turn
changes the flavor and aroma. Each brewing method and
type of brewing equipment requires a particular grind.
Here are the best uses for a few different grinds:
1.
Fine - gritty, not quite a powder. Use for espresso.
2. Medium Fine - Sand-like consistency. Use for brewing
drip coffee with a wedge bottom filter (Mellita).
3. Medium - Use for brewing drip coffee with a flat
bottom filter.
4. Coarse - Use for press pot.
